Last February 23 the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela shone a light on polio as part of an effort by Rotary International to remind people of four polio-endemic countries that remain: Afghanistan, India, Nigeria and Pakistan.

Half a dozen other landmarks worldwide shone that light, including the Egyptian pyramid of Khafre, the Obelisk of Buenos Aires or the Wrigley Building at Chicago.

Pope Benedict XVI will visit Santiago de Compostela on Nov. 6, 2010. This visit is part of celebrations held whenever the Feast Day of St. James — July 25 — falls on a Sunday, as it does this year.
